Sanitation & Recycling
Currently the Village of Ludlow does not have a sanitary sewer system and wastewater treatment plant. A preliminary study to build and install was done in 2023; the report is available below. Each property has its own septic system and property owners are responsible for the cost of maintaing their septic systems. Champaign County Ordinance requires an inspection by the County Health Dept. of new septic systems. A copy of the compliance certificate must be filed with the Village Clerk.
The Village does not contract with an outside waste management company for solid waste collection and recycling in the Village. Residents establish their own trash pick up (local providers listed below).
Every June, the Village hosts a town wide clean up day. Donations are accepted to help with the cost of the dumpsters and landfill fees. Dumpsters are available for Village residents to drop off metal, glass, appliances, trash, etc. for disposal. Electronics, Televisions, Tires and Chemicals are not accepted.
Each May and October the Village also participates with Champaign County in free recycling events for electronic and household waste. For information about recycling in Champaign County visit: https://www.ccenvstew.org/
